THE CONTEMPORARY TEA, AS SERVED BY PROVERBS!

When most people think of the bible, the first thing that comes to mind is a religious catalogue pointing out one’s rights and wrongs, so they probably do not bother studying it. The worlds most obvious choice for motivation is a motivational speaker, life coach or a personal trainer or the self development book section, categories I tend to enjoy and extract from myself. But I recently re-discovered a little gem, only 31 chapters long. Proverbs!

I recently did a complete read through on the book of proverbs and I came away thinking, ‘Someone has to tell the world this book is a good motivational and self development book.’ It gives insights on relationships, promotions and even puts a few other things into perspective such as beauty and character.  I call it ‘TEA’ – Timely Effective Advise! Yes! Proverbs serves contemporary tea like you  wouldn’t believe. If you have the book of proverbs its time to shake the dust off that book and find out just what your missing. My latest read through had me concluding that it should definitely be a coffee table book. Forget Vogue! Lady Wisdom, as she refers to herself, in this book, has some tea for you.

Here’s what the book of proverbs has to say for itself, ‘Leave your simple ways and you will live; walk in the way of insight.’- Proverbs 9:6

The Contemporary TEA

Are you a young professional looking to move up – Be the best at what you do!
Do you see a man skilful in his work? He will stand before kings; he will not stand before obscure men. – Proverbs 22:29

Are you part of a circle of friends – Do not dwell on offenses or spread gossip, forgive. Let go!
Love prospers when a fault is forgiven, but dwelling on it separates close friends. – Proverbs 17:9
A trouble maker plants seeds of strife; gossip separates the best of friends. – Proverbs 16:28

Are you an entrepreneur looking to break ground or start a side hustle – The race is not to the swift!
Wealth from get-rich-quick schemes quickly disappears; wealth from hard work grows over time. – Proverbs 13:11

Are you struggling with procrastination in any area of their life – Just do it!
Take a lesson from the ants, you lazybones. Learn from their ways and become wise! Though they have no prince or governor or ruler to make them work, they labour hard all summer, gathering food for the winter. But you, lazybones, how long will you sleep? When will you wake up? A little extra sleep, a little more slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest—then poverty will pounce on you like a bandit; scarcity will attack you like an armed robber. – Proverbs 6:6 – 11

Are you banking on beauty – There’s more to the equation!
A beautiful woman who lacks discretion is like a gold ring in a pig’s snout. – Proverbs 11:22

Are you struggling with a bad temper – Deep breaths!
A fool is quick- tempered, but a wise person stays clam when insulted. Proverbs 12:16

The book is really riddled with  so much good stuff, I can’t begin to list it all. But if you are looking for your next insightful read. How about the book of proverbs?
