One day to the New Year and, wow, just wow! What a ride. 2016 has been my most defining year to date and in hindsight, I am grateful this year happened. I probably sound like I got every box ticked on my list of goals but in actual fact, none was ticked!  Yes, that’s right none.  If 2016 was a can and I lifted the lid and showed you what was in it, well, let’s just say, everyone can learn to be grateful wherever they are, whatever the can on their shelf. So why was 2016, even though the most challenging so far, the best yet? Quite, simply because I learned to fall in love with the process, and that, dear reader, was my revelation this year.

I don’t think I have seen as many doors shut and as many doors open, as this year. I don’t think I have had as many frustrations as I have had this year. I don’t think I have defined and re-defined as many friendships as I have this year.  I don’t think I have seen God fulfill as many scriptures as He has this year. I don’t think I have been to as many weddings as I have this year. Heck, I don’t think, I have ever looked as good as I have this year! I didn’t finish bruised and broken, I finished looking ‘extra fly’!  I learned that it’s not about the shiny new thing, its about the polishing. It’s not about about doing 30 push-ups in one go, its about showing up  to train day after day. I learned God is not only invested in your quality of life but the quality of your character, faith and personality. He is not just interested in opening doors, He is interested in the foundations and walls too! While His answers may ‘seem’ delayed,  the quality of your character is actually on the fast track, so He is constantly polishing us, somewhere, somehow. In light of this, do we really ever lose?

For every extra weight I lifted, for every extra mile I walked, mentally, physically, spiritually, I lost excess weight, mentally, physically and spiritually. I am thankful to God that no part of my being was sitting on a couch eating chips. This year, I got a workout. I was out there running, jumping huddles and overcoming. I run all the way to today and now 2016 is just another plaque on the wall. I won! I overcame!

If your reading this, guess what, you won too! No matter what came your way, no matter what’s can is sitting on your shelf, you made it. You may have lost a loved one, a house, battled an ailment, you may have been left overwhelmed wondering how you will make it another day, but somehow you have. If your still fighting, be grateful that you live to fight another day, but as far as 2016 is concerned, you won!

But thanks be to God, who in Christ always leads us in triumphal procession, and through us spreads the fragrance of the knowledge of him everywhere. 2 Corinthians 2:14
