How a single mom went from drug dealing to founding a Christian Outreach

Drug addiction is long-term, compulsive drug use. The person may attempt to stop using drugs, but repeatedly return to drug use despite physical, emotional, or social harm. Drug dependence means that the body has begun to require the drug in higher doses to have the same effect and to avoid withdrawal symptoms. (

Addiction is defined as a chronic, relapsing brain disease that is characterized by compulsive drug seeking and use, despite harmful consequences. It is considered a brain disease because drugs change the brain; they change its structure and how it works. These brain changes can be long lasting and can lead to many harmful, often self-destructive, behaviors. (

Addiction is a medical condition characterized by compulsive engagement in rewarding stimuli, despite adverse consequences. (

You probably did not need to read those definitions to know what ‘addiction’ means. You have probably witnessed, or even suffered from it. You probably know it well enough to know addiction of any kind is a thief! Stealing hopes and dreams, the future of families, as far as generations!

While attending a friend’s wedding in Maryhill, Glasgow, last weekend, I was introduced to a lady called Michelle Kellett- Smith, and while we were chatting, I found out she was a former drug dealer. It was nothing short of a jaw dropping conversation! In a nutshell, she was able to turn her life around and reach out to those still struggling in her community by founding her own Christian outreach in Maryhill, and throughout the conversation she never let me forget that it was God that transformed her.

She told me about how she went from selling drugs to wealthy people in Glasgow, to hearing from God, and then founding Jumping Jacks Outreach. She spoke of how God has turned the lives of many other addicts around and how God has a plan for them. I also chatted with a few members from the outreach at the wedding and I remember thinking to myself, ‘Isn’t God good!’. What an awesome testimony!  I was so inspired by her every word, that I immediately took down her details and I also managed to get a link to her testimony. Please watch below and if you know anyone that may be struggling with an addiction, let them know God still loves them and share this video with them. The Outreach details are also available on their Facebook page.

Michelle Kellett- Smith, founder of Jumping Jacks Outreach shares her testimony

‘And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.’ ~ Romans 8
